GEN-X DC IS...
A COMMUNITY
Gen-X DC is Washington DC's third oldest Bear community. With early origins in the Generation X Bears movement, the DC Generation X Bears community has been around in one form or another since the fall of 1996. The current mailing list was founded on OneList.com in January 1998 as Gen-X DC held the East Coast Gathering for Generation X Bears. Identifying as independent in 2000, Gen-X DC is one of few Generation X Bears organizations that have survived and evolved into the new millennium. Today, the community is a little less public, but it's still going strong.
"The List," with almost 60,000 messages sent since January, 1998, has been the source of friendship, drama, news, love, heartache, happiness, planning, politicizing, and community for over eight years for many members of Washington DC's Gay and Bear community. Events, dinners, and meetups are actively planned on the list, and anyone who would like to come along is encouraged to join in. Just say hi.
GenXDC Members Compiled Journal
With the wide popularity of LiveJournal among members of Gen-X DC and the wider Bear community, a new GenXDC LiveJournal group has been created to help new guys meet GenXDC (and vice versa) and to help keep local members in touch.
Right now, instead of focusing on messages in the new group, we're using the group's "friends" page. The "friends" page contains journal entries compiled from all members of GenXDC. So if you have a LiveJournal, please join the LJ group to be added to the GenXDC Compiled Journal.
A SCENE
Gen-X DC has hosted countless movies, parties, dinners, billiard events, and meetups. A lack of formality has made membership of Gen-X DC over the last decade very fluid with people coming and going, joining or lurking through the years. Past members have gone on to create their own communities. As one of DC's original online and real-life social communities, Gen-X DC is a cornerstone - or a stepping stone - of Washington DC's Bear community.
